Priyanka is our principal optometrist, highly regarded by our patients for both her clinical excellence and caring approach.
Priyanka will carry out the main part of your eye examination and write your prescription.
Priyanka’s training also means she can recognise diseases of the eye, such as cataract and glaucoma, and signs that can help diagnose an underlying health condition, such as diabetes.
Priyanka began her career in 2002. After completing a foundation degree in dispensing optics, she went on to obtain a BSc (Hons) degree in optometry and visual science from City University, London. Priyanka has since worked in both private independent and corporate opticians, so has broad experience and a good understanding of how to provide the best possible eye care.
Priyanka completed PEARS, Glaucoma and Cataract Courses at the Wales Optometry Postgraduate Education Centre (WOPEC). WOPEC is the only dedicated optometry postgraduate education centre in the world. It’s part of Cardiff University’s School of Optometry and Vision Sciences, which is recognised globally as a centre of excellence for teaching and research. Priyanka is now an assessor for WOPEC’s objective structured clinical examination.
Priyanka is accredited to see patients with acute eye problems under the local PEARs (Primary Eyecare and Assessment Referral Service) and PEARS plus for Glaucoma Monitoring Scheme, and those referred by local GPs to the Basingstoke and Frimley Hospital.
Priyanka has a BSc (Hons) degree in Optometry and Visual Science obtained from City University, London. She also has a Professional Certificate in Glaucoma obtained at City University, London and in 2014 completed Birmingham City Hospital’s diabetic screening programme. In 2018 she completed her Medical Retina Course.
Priyanka has a special interest in peripheral retina. In 2018 she completed her medical retina course and is working towards becoming an independent prescriber.
Stella is our dispensing optician, known among our patients for her diligence and patience.
She will make sure you have the best possible lenses for both your prescription and lifestyle.
She will also help you choose frames that you like, find comfortable and that suit your lenses.
Stella first worked for an optician when she was still at school. She went on to qualify as a dispensing optician in 1990, and has worked in the profession ever since.
Stella has worn many different types of glasses over the years and now wears varifocals.
This helps her understand people’s concerns about trying different lenses, in particular if they’re considering wearing varifocals for the first time.
Stella gained her Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing from Bradford and Ilkley Community College. She is also a Fellow of British Dispensing Opticians, FBDO.
Stella hated wearing glasses as a child so completely understands why a child and their parents may be concerned when they are first prescribed glasses.
Stella is also fascinated by colour and how certain colours complement a person’s appearance and personality. It’s one of the reasons she’s so good at helping our customers choose the best frames for them.
Jemma is our optical assistant, helping both Priyanka and Stella.
Jemma will carry out your pre-test and measure your eyes before you go in to see Priyanka.
She may also help you choose your frames and lenses. And, being multi-talented, Jemma helps out behind the scenes with our administration and accounts.
Jemma enjoys working with and meeting new people. Before joining OVC she spent 11 years working in the property industry. This experience helped her develop her excellent communication skills
Jemma is committed to providing a very high level of service and this comes through when she helps our patients choose their frames and lenses.
Jemma is keen to further her career in optics. She has completed training in how to carry out our pre-tests.
And, although she doesn’t wear glasses herself, Jemma has spent time learning about the wide range of frames and lenses our patients can choose from.
Jemma is interested in providing the highest level of customer service. She says there is nothing like the feeling when you know you have helped someone choose a frame they are happy with and find comfortable to wear.
